Doesn’t really matter unless you are trying to sell or refinance or lower your tax bill.
I tried submitting a support ticket to zillow but their flowery response basically said it is what it is and closed the ticket. I guess I'm just concerned that future buyers will look back and see we purchased it $x/SF and not appreciate any improvements we make (including likely finishing the basement). I feel like I will also screw up/reduce the zestimates for the same reason.
No. As long as your agent lists it correctly when you sell in the future, it’s fine. Your county site should list it as “finished sqft below grade” and “unfinished sqft below grade” and your Realtor should list it the same way. Zillow is not the definitive source of info and most people know it can be inaccurate.
