Depends highly on where you live. I’ve been carless for years, but live downtown and everything I need or like to do is in walking proximity. I use Uber for appointments, meeting friends, etc. and have never spent the equivalent of a car payment in a month. However, I believe if I lived even a few minutes outside of central downtown, I would need a car as my Uber usage would go up significantly and no longer make sense.
Pretty bad not enough enough bus routes and timing yourself on how fast you have to walk yourself to the bus stop sucks too. Especially when it would start raining. You meet the most strangest people on earth when you the public busses. I don't envy the people who have to use the busses.
I've actually always wondered about this OP and wondered if it was worth it. I have a car that I pay on every month but its rather expensive and I like the idea of lowering costs but I haven't really heard good thigns about car-sharing services.
