Definitely think through your ability to raise a puppy. It’s not easy and it takes a lot of time and effort to properly train and socialize a puppy. You may also want to invest in formal training which can be pricey but 100% worth if it you really want to make sure you have a well rounded dog to stick with you for next 12-18 years.
Have a plan for how you will handle things like work travel, weekend travel, daily walks and care when we aren’t in a pandemic.
Budget —at a minimum plan to spend about $1500 to $3K for vet, food, supplies, dog Walker, training, etc.
Best of luck with your decision. Bringing a dog into your life is truly one of the best things you can do for your life satisfaction. There are sacrifices but also a lot of love and happiness too.

So depending on the age of the dog, their health, grooming costs for certain breeds, and annual vet visits with dental cleanings etc I would say to plan for approximately $1500 a year. It may be more or less each year but if your dog needs sedation for their dental cleaning that’s $400 right there. Vet costs add up quickly and you can’t predict those expenses outside of the routine items. Research vets in your area to find out pricing and you can consider pet insurance too. You can also consider breeds that don’t need regular expensive grooming and that is huge cost saving
Find out hiw much dog walking is in your city. A golden will eat a lot more than a cocker. Goldens are also highly prone to cancer at years 7+. Grt high deductible pet insurance.
