Chi is a great city.. it’s big enough but not as large as NYC. Great food, bars, clubs, great people, and during the summer it’s 🔥
I did this move! Suburbs of SF Bay Area to Chicago. I’d also lived in Boston for a bit. I considered NYC and Denver as well and did a “trial” run in Chicago in 2018. Was going to do the same for Denver and NYC but never made it. Chicago just felt right and I made more friends in 4 months than I’d made anyplace outside of college. It’s really easy to find your people here.
Boston all the way. Great city and So much to do in 4-5 hour driving .. from Montreal to Maine and Vermont to New York and Providence .. Chicago is dead 20 miles out .
Downtown Chicago white af so if you’re looking for diversity maybe not the best
I’ve spent time in Boston and Chicago – Chicago is cheaper, better food, and really nice people. Public transportation is also really convenient and accessible, and the summers in the city are an absolute blast. Just be ready for some terrible winters

Everyone is really exaggerating winters. This is not North Pole. February is cold - 2-3 weeks get to 0; that’s it. -55 someone mentioned is a dramatic overstatement. People are talking about it like they’re required to build igloos with bare hands out there. Stay home, turn the heater up, head to the gym instead of a run by the lake, take an Uber. All good.
Echo the above - one of my fav cities. Only thing is Chi winters can be tough, and if we travel again, don’t love that the airport is out in west bumblefsck.
Where are you now?
I hate the souths heat/humidity and love cold weather so I’m hoping it wouldn’t be too difficult! I know chicago winters are intense to say the least lol
I loved Chicago but the city is segregated. Lots of mid westerners. Not nearly as diverse as NY. But all that said, I’d move back in an instant. Public transport is incredible and it’s a very affordable city. The neighborhoods are awesome too. I lived in Lakeview paid 1800 for a nice two bedroom. Then moved to Lincoln Square and paid 1100 for a big one bedroom. Loved both neighborhoods which speaks to they huge array of options available at all price points.

Chicago is a great city, the only downside is the absolutely brutal winters
It’s when it gets so cold that the moisture deep in the ground freezes and cracks apart. You just hear faint booms and fee slight shakes
