Was in the same situation 6 months ago. Had AA Plat and did match with United and Delta. Delta is way better. Gold status will get you unlimited upgrades to first and Delta Comfort... none of that AA sticker nonsense. I almost always get at least Comfort... free snacks, liquor. Entertainment options are usually better as well, TVs and power outlets on most of my flights.
AA does have big hub in LA though, so should be considered. Direct flights are key.
all 3 have mini-hubs out of LAX so you're in luck. Delta is a better airline overall and treats those with status best but UA will provide better/cheaper redemptions abroad. Depends what you value, flying experience or points/redemptions. I'm out of LAX and I chose Delta.
Delta crossover means 1 Skymile for every $ at SPG and vice versa. A couple reciprocal benefits, but nothing additional if you have top tier on both. However, it will end after the merger.
United Marriott only matters if you don't have status on the other. No additional points.
I'm SPG and Utd. So whenever I stayed at Marriott, I chose Utd miles instead of points. Wasn't much. My few Delta flights seemed to have paid off more in SPG points.
City?
SF but planning to move to LA
I personally prefer United for Star Alliance mile redemption. Much better rates to travel internationally. Just booked the other day, Delta was double miles and double fees for same trip.
Could you both comment on the Delta SPG alliance and the United Marriott? Do you get any points for taking any eligible flights?
I know about Mileage rewards and the Crossover rewards - just don't know the benefits. I am a SPG plat, so don't know if that factors in, in any way. Thanks so much for the response tho!
Lol...most low budget post ever
