It’s amazing how second nature our tasks become until we have to explain them step by step. I’ve definitely been in a similar situation, and I found that slowing down and thinking aloud as I work really helps. It not only makes the process clearer for them but also helps me reflect on why I do things a certain way. Patience, encouragement, and checking in often to see what’s making sense (or not) can go a long way. You’re doing a great job just by being open to mentoring.

Yes that’s exactly the position I was in, and I sat back and thought this is so hard to explain step by step and why I do what I do haha! I’ve took that advice on board thank you!😊
Are they asking for those details, or do you just feel obligated to fill them all in? I’d ask if you could take a step back and just show them the big picture for a lot of the tasks. Also, try to remember when you first started, what would you like to know or have been shown at that time?

Just generally asking questions about the task which make complete sense but to me as it’s so second nature I’m like yeah why do I do that etc. Yes that’s a good way to look at it as I’ve been in there shoes also.
Just keep in mind they'll always remember their work experience placement. I loved mine! I wanted to be a nurse at the time so i worked in a care assised placement. Just make it pleasant and if they don't get to grips with some of the tasks it's doesn't matter too much.

I’m glad you had a great experience too! Yes it’s no pressure I just find it difficult explaining to someone that doesn’t have any experience before.
I have been there and it surprised me how hard it was to explain things I do on autopilot. What helped me was breaking each task into “what, how, and why” and letting them shadow first, then try it themselves with me nearby.

Yes that’s always a good idea for them to shadow first! Really made me realise how second nature I just got on with my job without thinking!
