My dad stole my identity a couple
years back and tanked my credit score
- brought it down to like 400. I've
been working towards fixing it so that
my boyfriend and I can buy a house in
the next year or so. This morning, I
checked my score after not looking at
it for a while and I'm in the mid 600s!
Y'all don't know how happy I am
about this lol

Congrats. When you’re in the mid-600s, you should be able to get some secured credit cards to rebuild to 700+.

My identity got stolen by unknown and back then identity theft wasn’t well known so it was impossible to deal with vs just waiting the 7+ years. I couldn’t even get a police report. I know how hard it is to rebuild. I literally had tons of actual money in my bank accounts and did everything through debit cards but could not get a credit card. For example, I bought a BMW in cash/certified check. I couldn’t finance.

Thank you! I do have 2 secured cards at the moment and they’ve helped bring my score up slowly.

Wow I can’t imagine dealing with this in a time where resources were barely able to assist or keep up. I hope your situation is fully resolved by now!

I’m all good now. Current credit score bounces around in the 830s.

Congrats on the rising score! I know how much work it can be to move the needle. Have you checked out Experian Boost? You can raise the score with them using bills you are already paying, iirc.

Or… should I take a small loan?

22 years old and currently focused on using my left over income to invest and pay off my debt. I am set to pay off my college loans by next year and, when I do, I want to look into investing into real estate. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get into/learn more about real estate investing? Or how I can have enough knowledge on the topic to be able to invest wisely when the time comes?

Any books? youtubers? etc. How did you all learn about it?

My parents are currently refinancing their home and because they are close to retirement and have a smaller income, I'm planning to take out the mortgage under my name (won't be listed as the property owner). Would I still be able to get the benefits of being a first home buyer when that time comes? Or will the mortgage disqualify me? Based on the Gross salary offered I have calculated the in hand salary per month would be around 152000 considering 150000 in 80C, 50000 in NPS and 200000 deductions due to home loan interest. Total tax liability is around 400000. Any other options do I have to save tax further (other than HRA, LTA)? Thanks in advance.

But in 1981 the median family had that extra money. Who can I blame?

Seeking feedback on GAP insurance. I had a family member who purchased a car in June or July. They were in an accident last week and it sounds like the car will be declared a total loss. Never dealt with this before, so wanted to ask if anyone has ever had an instance where the insurance didn't cover the outstanding balance of the loan and the insured then owed money? Car was $35k, $7k down, finance $28k. Gap insurance is through lender, not auto insurer.
