Federal government planned to break up big audit firms with consulting arms.
In preparation, KPMG carved out their consulting arm and renamed it BearingPoint.
Government failed to pass legislation requiring the breakups.
Deloitte was the only firm to not complete the carve out.
BearingPoint subsequently failed.
Deloitte acquired BearingPoint.
Cultural clashes took place and former BearingPoint people submitted to Deloittes wrath or leave.
I interviewed at Deloitte and during questioning section ask about the the BearingPoint people not adapting to Deloitte.
Interviewer informed me she came from BearingPoint. (Clearly assimilated into the collective)
I did not get the job.

Delimiter acquired pieces the Federal Practice but the brand re-started as a partnership in Europe
I ask because currently I know a few people being headhunted to join their technology service line. Looks like they’re restarting US operations
I used to work for BP in US prior to Bankruptcy. I was in commercial and jumped before they went under - so did not join Deloitte as part of takeover (which was the GPS practice actually - commercial went to PWC).
To answer your question- I think the BP name was retained by some member firms outside US. Might be trying to restart in US.
Yes, they have restarted operations in the US as of 2015. Europe did a MBO back in 2009 and re-started operations back in 2009.
They have 3 US partners so they are trying to reach critical mass
