Move dilemma:
Currently @ Arthur D. Little Limited Dubai as SE Manager w/ base comp of 285k $ + 10-15% bonus. Vert limited fit w/ people & projects in the region (MEI) & not motivated by seniors. Not happy w/ the job but good WLB. Very likely to promote to Pr which would include a 20-30% jump in total comp but shift to more variable
Move to MBB as PL. Projects & people are supposed to be great and he could see himself in the long run. Comp is 170k $ + 60% bonus. Will take 1.5y to move to Pr

Make sure there’s not a provision about return duration. My company (a WPP firm) requires 6 months’ service post return — or you have to repay all salary+benes from leave. Ouch
They’d lay you off in a heartbeat while on leave....so....?
Not if it’s part of a broader layoff, no. I’ve seen it more than once.
I think the quitting part is fair game any time, but be reeeeeaaaaalllllll flexible about helping them if they need it while they find a permanent replacement for you. If you’re lucky, they’ve been handling things fine and you get off easy without having to return. But if they’re up shit’s creek and have been scrambling since you left, don’t burn that bridge by bailing. You’ll want that reference. Come back part time/contract/work from home for a limited time if they truly need you. And you’ll feel like a good human for helping.
