To anyone recently laid off: this market i tough, but it’s not a dead end. Fewer postings and longer waits between hiring cycles can be discouraging, even for strong candidates. I’m hopeful that once the AI dust settles and orgs start hiring to fit their AI strategies, we’ll see a stronger hiring cycle. Until then, opportunities are still moving through people. Keep showing up, keep learning, and keep your network warm. What’s helping you stay optimistic right now?

I agree the middle chapter is real and invisible. I have seen people contract, consult, retrain, or quietly regroup. Progress still happens off LinkedIn. Momentum often rebuilds sideways before it moves forward again.

Yeah I need to be doing something productive during this off cycle so when hiring increases I can be ready!

The AI dust settling thing assumes companies will start hiring again after. I'm not convinced they will. I get the sense a lot of these jobs just aren't coming back, period. But I really hope I'm wrong.

It will settle like everything else does!

Taking a lot of this time to continue learning. It’s actually been great for me, getting to brush up in some areas and upskill in others. Looking forward to the dust settling, feels like everything has been upside down for a while.

What are you learning? I hear people are learning about AI but what are you learning prompting?

I am taking time to improve my coding skills; LeetCode is my best friend these days.

Hi everyone!
I currently work for Graybar Electric as a Project Specialist. Over the past few months, I’ve been training some of the new employees and it’s really inspired me to want to move into a operations training and development or a leadership position. Unfortunately, there isn’t a lot of room for growth where I’m at. I’m hoping to make new connections and see where this new endeavor takes me, if anyone would be so kind as to refer me. Here’s a picture of our family dog for some likes ❤️

Hi! Recently discussed an associate graphic designer role with a recruiter. Is it reasonable to expect an 85k base in NYC? Am I underselling myself? They started with it being a 75-80k budgeted position. What are typical base salaries for someone with 4.5 ttl YOE? Does it matter that 3 YOE was in an adjacent industry?
