To avoid the inevitable rebuttal when late work is turned in:

1. When they turn in late work smile and say nothing more than Thank You”
2. Mark “Late” on the assignment.
3. In the grade book enter the grade as -x% and note the date assignment was received.

Watch how things diffuse.

Also helpful is having a fixed “late charge” that is always the same for all assignments, and listed in published grading policies. Mine is 5% of earned grade per school day up to ten days. After that even a perfect assignment is still going to have be a low grade.

Yoga folks! I used to do yoga and exercise frequently. Things happened, getting back on the wagon. I'd love to work up to a daily practice even if it's just a few mins - but I do need to incorporate other programming as I've got some covid lbs to lose. I know that some other associates at my level are approximately 30% behind other associates in hours on a month to month basis. Yet all of these associates say they are “at capacity”, and myself and another associate still end up being assigned work instead of them. How do we handle this? For reference, all associates are around the firms minimum requirement, it’s just that a few of us are 30+% over and it is leading to burnout.

Got dread? Picture yourself having a great day. Managing all the yuk makes for a successful day.

Start each class with a few seconds of stillness. It takes consistent practice. Most students will blurt something silly out after about 4 seconds. Expect it and smile. After time is up ask students to notice what they were doing during that time. No shame. Notice and strive to be more still next.

1. Hands, feet, mouth, arms, legs still (a veritable challenge)
2. Close the eyes.
3. Long exhales to bring in the calming chemical acetylcholine.

Why not invest in your professional development by seeking a coach or mentor or even pay for professional resources that would help? To put it plainly, why don't we educators invest in our professional development?

Google forms make for great exit tickets. Of course this only works if your students all have a device. Hard copy exit tickets can become unmanageable, depending on class sizes and frequency.
