I don't have an amazing work life balance but I I do multiple long days to get away early on a few others which makes me feel more like I have time at work to spend with my family. It is also exhausting at the same time to do longer days and may need my early finishes to recover... 40/45 hours is too much for such little gain.

It's nice to not think about work AT ALL once I'm gone for the day. A good work/life balance is hard to come by but sometimes it all depends on what you do on your days off.
When I was on a contract, boy was it easy to just shut out work at 8 hours a day. There’s built in work life balance. I was never needed after hours and the emergent issues were ones I didn’t have to deal with, it was great. The down side is, no benefits.
