Headphones may be your only hope.....
This is the only way I'm able to survive and focus in the office. Our walls are paper thin and I'm easily distracted, which is a terrible combination. I have my headphones in 90% of the day and it makes a world of difference for me.
I advocated for two days to work from home in order to focus. I have been diagnosed with ADHD, and an office setting is just a nightmare for me, productivity-wise. I talked to my manager about requesting accommodations, and after a couple of months, they were approved. Those three days in office are still tough, but it's way better than before.
I wish I had a better alternative, but in my case, I just had to get used to it. It was really challenging for a while. Stressed me out big time. But eventually I got better at focusing and listening to what was important through the rest of the noise. Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to wear headphones or I probably would have done that.
If it's an on going issue maybe you could ask to be moved but on the other hand you don't want to isolate yourself. I struggle on a Monday with all the extra noise and people talking to me, as sometimes I've not really seen anyone all weekend and suddenly there's lots of noise.
Ive had this personally over the years, and also with colleagues in the team - when at different points or when needing to 'zone out' getting the concentration is nearly impossible. If Im honest with you - now I use headphones with things like 'green noise, white noise or brown noise' playing in spotify, OR I use the noise blocking 'loop' ear plugs (they're great!).. you find different ways of coping, but lots and lots of people in HR are similar. So just try and find the thing that discretly works for you! Good luck.
I understand exactly how you are feeling. I get overstimulated easily when there is a lot going on in my office. Can you try wearing noise cancelling headphones? That is what I do when it is loud in my office.
