Hey everyone. I keep coming across comments about the predatory practices of journals but can’t find any details. Could you explain?

Can you be a little clearer with your post?

Not entirely sure what you're referring to. Who's the victim of these predatory practices?

Don't think I've heard anything about this topic. Can you share more details about how journals take advantage of people?

Oooh boy, where to start!! You're told all through grad school that you have to keep publishing if you want any kind of career. So you spend a ton of time on your research, and then PAY a journal to review and publish it...who then charge for anyone to read it. You get absolutely nothing except empty pockets and uncertainty over why you chose this career.

I don't understand how this became the industry norm.

I have been approached by 3 separate HR people at a startup company to interview for a position. I already have a fulltime job that pays well and I only started 6 months ago too. Anyways, the pay was intriguing and the job was a high level scientific advisor so I did interviews. At the last interview, at the end I was told the job was for management but I prepared for a different kind of interview. I am waiting for an offer or rejection letter. I feel peeved that they wasted my time. Red flags?
