Toronto ad fish 🤠 I’ve spent most of my career working as a copywriter in London (6 years here, 2 years Toronto) and the market is pretty different here. I’m planning on moving back home but wondered….how do you find work in Toronto? Agencies barely post openings, is the recruiter scene strong? Is it mostly who you know?

I hope honesty is just the best policy with my new employer ☹️
Are you me? Lol. Jk. My first agency job was 3.5 years. Good opportunities but I was vastly underpaid. Fell for the classic trick of joining a boring agency trying to turn things around. They paid me much better. I wanted to leave within two months. Stayed a year much like a lot of people suggest here. Looking back, I don't think I had to. The key would be to try to find another job you really see yourself sticking with for a bit. I think one short stint on your resume is okay, just not again and again.
I genuinely don’t feel like I would last a year lmao but it makes me feel better knowing I can actually not make this look like a failure haha
Don’t be afraid to leave, you’ll just hate your life and it’ll slowly creep into your day to day which isn’t a good look either. Agree with senior cw 1, just make sure your next place is one you can stay for a while.
I left an agency after 6 months, no one has ever asked about it. All other agencies for at least 3 years. As long as it’s not a pattern, you’ll be fine.
You guys are making me feel so much better, I’ll stick with it for a few more months and start planning options in the meantime, thank you !!
The market is so desperado right now, if you’re good, no one will bat an eyelash about a quick stopover.
Life’s too short to be miserable. Go forth!
Im thinking I need a list of good agencies with references this time hahah
Stay a year at least if it’s actually beneficial for ur prospects of getting interviews elsewhere. But I’d only do that if your on a nationally or internationally recognized brand/market-leader and your the main agency on client.
That was the plan when I accepted this job 👌🏻
Agree with SAD1. XM market is hot and lots are hiring right now and won’t bat an eye.
Mosaic is hiring big time.

How long were you at the previous agency?
If it was a long time, you could afford a short stint at this current one.
If it was also kind of short, you may want to stick it out as long as possible. At least a year.
3 years-ish. Just worried my current agency is going to kill my CV? It’s easy work I’m really good at but not a real challenge and nothing I’m really interested in, hoping a move to PR/experiential would justify the short stint if I just decide to quit? It would be a career change.
