5k is nothing to them too. As again for your 125. Worse case they say no, or better case they move closer or give you the 125. Goes without saying, but give a reason or emphasize why they should go to 125.

What kind of negotiation is this company doing? Now it’s getting me thinking, should you start off by asking for 10 to 15K more than your desired base, knowing the company is going to try to bring that number down by that much?

Ask for a larger sign on bonus to make up the difference. I did this recently, and my sign on was increased by 3x bc they could not budge on the base (which was already at the max for my position).
