We are such a collaborative bunch, so this may have been answered previously. I do not want to search for the previous responses in the thread because it is a slippery slope down the rabbit hole of doom scrolling, and I dont want open that can of worms.

I would like to hear from attorneys that switched from a billing environment to a company doing legal work but not billing, whether it helps with productivity. I am assuming it does.

Of course it helps.

The standard billable hour model incentivizes inefficiency, status quo, and redundancy.

But your brain delights in puzzles and tinkering and gets bored of seeing the same thing twice. Once it’s noticed something inefficient, it’s also incredibly difficult and stressful for your brain to ignore it and to keep doing a task the “wrong way.”

IHC is great because you’re incentivized to be more efficient, and you can cut corners because most of the work product only needs to be “good enough” actionable advice.

Plus it’s often poorly managed, so if you keep your efficiencies to yourself you can get your daily quota of work product done in fewer hours. This helps for those “bad days” you can’t function.

If your brain doesn’t work like a NT, don’t try to act like one.

Your boss doesn’t care about how easy/hard something is, or how the sausage is made. He just cares about results.

So feel free to have secret little rituals and games you do to trick your brain into doing work. Start delivering quality work product timely without as much effort, start feeling better and more confident, stop feeling so anxious.

One of the things that my ADD coach helped me with was realizing that I wasn’t prioritizing activities that help me feel recharged. Between work and home responsibilities, I was just burnt out and overwhelmed.

So now when I start to get burned out I focus on reducing auditory overwhelm, getting outside, listen to music, get comfortable, read a fun book, etc.

As we’re heading into the weekend, what are some things you do to recharge and give yourself a break?

I’m finding that environmental noise has increased near my office now that tourism has picked back up in my city, and I’m struggling to block it out. I’ve tried earplugs but the noises tend to vibrate my office building so the earplugs don’t work well as an entire block.
