I turn off notifications for everything but urgent messages (our team uses IM for time-sensitive requests, and I mute group chats). I’m fidgety enough that I’m still checking email / messages every 15-20 minutes but a notification doesn’t completely derail me.
I keep my notifications muted and force myself to focus on one task at a time. Otherwise, I'm like you, and I end up chasing my tail but getting nothing done. For emails, I will leave them marked as unread to avoid forgetting to respond. For chats, if you don't click on them, the notification should still show. If not, then write a list or set a reminder on your phone.
I feel the same and have also been told I need to respond faster. Not a permanent solution but I’m at the point where I get work done outside of business hours.. not sustainable but that’s what I’m doing for now
I have an echo on my desk and ask Alexa to remind me in 10 minutes to respond to x, etc. Also marking emails for follow up and adding a reminder is really helpful
I'd set an alarm on my phone. But honestly kind of annoying they expect you to respond to a chat rather than get your work done. My team doesn't really use chat that way.
Alarms and checklists are my friends. Thankful for alarms that read alarm descriptions aloud.
