We had a pesky fly come into the restaurant the other day and I spent like 1/2 the day chasing it around until I finally caught it by smacking it with a newspaper. lol. Thankfully we don’t normally have these issues, but what are your fly catching or fly deterring methods?

🤣🤣🤣 This is the most relatable post I've ever seen on here. I thought I was the only one who had extreme OCD about chasing these suckers down. Our restaurant patio attracts so many flies and occasionally one or two get in from guests in and out, but we have both zappers and the sticky pads hidden discreetly in the main dining area. I'd love to know an actual deterrent, though.

Haha yep! Those damn suckers annoy me so much!!! I need some innovative way to get rid of the occasional one without me chasing it down for hours!!!

Beer, grenadine syrup in a glass and make a paper cone that you put in the glass to trap them. Funny technique when the boss doesn't wanna pay a few bucks for something against that.

Wow never thought of a home made solution! Love it and I just might try it out! 😁

Wait? Just one fly? You must work in the cleanest restaurant I’ve ever seen. Also any time a customer opens the door three flies come in with them.

lol yeah thankfully we don’t have a lot of flies out at the front. They do slip in every now and then and they drive me CRAZY!!!

I once worked in a Japanese restaurant and the owner/head chief would hunt them down with a slightly damp towel. He did this everyday. He was also special forces in Korea so his aim was impeccable!

The poor thing was hungry!

When drafting a brief or other submissions for court or arbitration, do you use words such as clearly, erroneously, etc. to emphasize certain points? Our managing partner says that we should, but all of the writing guides for litigators that I've read repeats the mantra "show, don't tell" and explain that most judges dread such words.

I know that the politically correct thing to do here is to do whatever the managing partner wants me to do, but I just wanted to ask for other ppl's opinion.

Good evening all,
With my partner we are considering making a move to the countryside of Switzerland, with a gorgeous RE project offering incredible views on immaculate mountains and lake. However, it is far away, and will require 1h+ train/car commute vs. 10 min biking right now. We are scared it will bite us back at some point, although COVID helped w/ remote working being a new norm. The project will be done 2024, so I hope to have a more relax job by then. Any similar experience to share?

Check the overtime laws for your state!!

I just recently worked 58.6 hours in a week, weekly pay, nice OT profit right? Depends on where you live.

In Iowa, there is no Overtime pay mandate, the overtime pay is at the discretion of the business. I received 58.6 hours of base pay for the week.

If the company makes less than $1 million per year or does not engage in intercontinental sales, the company is not required to pay the overtime rate of time and a half, just your base rate.

So I work as an assistant manager at a restaurant for the past 9 months. I've worked in restaurants for the past 6 years science I was 16. Now I'm 22. I went to a trade school for media and film. I got a dream opportunity to work in the field making about the same or 10% more. I told myself the only reason I'd leave this company is for this type of job. Should I take the chance at this job and leave the restaurant that is on the rise and growing?
