I was in BigLaw for 9 years and left because I hit my savings target. FIRE kept me motivated. I’m now primarily supporting my wife’s career (BigLaw counsel) as her job has unparalleled flexibility and she legit enjoys it, so we’ll use that to get the rest of the way to full financial independence. For myself, I’m currently focused on writing, wildlife photography, and fitness goals. Its unlikely that I will return to the legal field in the future. I’ve written more about it here if interested: https://www.attorneyevolved.com/post/biglaw-early-retirement
Thoughts on a Omega De Ville Prestige as a first luxury watch? Would be ~$7.5K USD at retail. Some friends have said great things about Omega as a starter, whereas others say it’s not worth it over a Rolex Oyster Perpetual (which would be similar in cost).
I personally love how clean the design is, the use of gold, and the thinner band as it links the watch … find the Rolex band design to be too chunky.

I call the plat concierge for everything. It's like telling mom. I always get what I want
Either you're getting trolled or said Manager is trying to get self fired.
^sounds more like, "how many hash browns should I ask for?"
Time to make a "how many points should I ask for" thread
Thanks A1 - he sent me an email insisting this was their policy, just forwarded to the SPG Platinum liason. I wonder how many people have been affected
Update us on what happens
Platinum Liason replied and said they would address it with the hotel, GM agreed to give me breakfast for the stay "this time" - they have the standard breakfast coupons which say "daily" on them. Think it may be new ownership/management of the hotel. They still have all their outdoor Christmas lights and ornaments up... something isn't quite right. Also the bedding isn't Heavenly.
Room change today since room last night had noisy air conditioning and some other issues, new room air conditioning didn't work. Maintenance came, noted that the room didn't cool below 75, and said he could relay my complaint, but that the hotel wasn't fixing the units, this was a common problem. He suggested I get a room that had more windows in it so that the surface area of the windows would cool the room down more, or that I open the balcony door.
Also, incidentally they still have all of their Christmas ornaments up in their trees outside the hotel on either side of the main entrance and all of their Christmas lights are still hung in trees throughout the property, was orange extension cords around the trunks.
What a joke- not only do you get it the whole stay it's usually for two people each day...that guy is gunning for unemployment
Which location?
A Westin? Maybe they just got the title and have time to conform... seems shady
Name names. This property needs a reality check
So when I get back to the hotel and ask about a room change for the second time in 18 hours, I'm told the only room they have is not available yet and has two double beds. Meanwhile, plenty of folks are getting checked in around me into rooms with king size beds that presumably have working air conditioners.
Ended up checking out and into a top-class Sheraton. The Westin comped my night, but of course I would rather have spent the money and had a good stay. I found out that the hotel is planning to start a room renovation project this year, that the hotel is under new ownership and new management in the last several months comma and so I could put two and two together: they aren't fixing problems but rather subjecting their guests to poor quality rooms intentionally.
