Is there other aspects to the offer like rsu and bonus? If not then yeah that offer is not good enough
Hey OP, I recently accepted an offer as Principal SA for Cloud Security. The job description similar to what your were describing. I have 10 yoe, of which, cloud security is 6 yoe.
My new employer pays 180k as base. I am curently in HCOL....but the good thing is they are 100% remote.
I feel, you should work on your perks & TC.
If you have any clones, let me know! Ha!
Welcome to capitalism. You want to talent? Gotta pay top dollars.
@ SPM1 - every recruiter I've spoken to has said that cybersecurity has not slowed or shown signs of slowing the same as other business areas.
You're probably right that it will have some impact but expect it will be far less than the whole.
I would ask, are you just posting and waiting for applicants on the role?
Are you using any headhunters to help as they usually go after candidates who are in the workforce already who aren’t actively looking & are locked in at much lower rates. Your 180k could be amazing to those individuals. Msg me, I think I could help.
How about going targeting candidates from companies conducting mass layoffs? You might have the upper hand in salary negotiations
180K total compensation with no equity + bonus is quite low. New grad SEs at a major tech firm make that much.
I’ll take it 😂
Damn I’m in the wrong profession 😒
Trying to find the candidate at this level based on if they have certification that is domain specific isn’t wise. I have worked with some folks who hoard all the certs but no experience working or understanding core security principles. Do they have aws cert? Sure. Do they understand the principle of zero trust or even core of how identity using oauth and saml works? Nope. Most of the great architects that are out in industry don’t focus on having the domain specific certs but being the knowledge expert and difference maker in this domain. I would target that
It really depends on location. $180k is quite low for what you’re looking for if the location is Bay Area or NYC. Might be okay in lower COL locations.
180k TC is about 40% low. You can make up the difference with the usual: more base, annual stock, annual bonus, etc. How are your benefits?
What company? I have about 10 YOE and CISSP. No AWS certs but if you have a preferred list I can start working on them.
Frankly I think it's a low ball. I'm filling a Senior security engineer role for about that amount.
I would consider it. Previous position as cybersecurity director (100% remote) paid $180k plus RSUs and bonus for a tech company. $180k not that off base. I have 15 YOE cybersecurity, AWS Security, risk and compliance. Have CISSP.
We are looking for someone that has programming or scripting experience as well. If that is you, send me a DM!
I have been seeing anywhere from 200-230k depending on the candidate and they are usually asking for benefits/bonus/equity if applicable etc.
Why bother with the AWS cert? If you're hiring someone at this level, it's a bit unnecessary.
I have senior security engineers on my team making 180k+ bonus. Our company is also remote, This is pretty low or at the minimum band compared to other companies IMO
Is your company hiring?
Are y’all remote? If not, where would they be working out of?
We are looking for someone that has a CISSP, AWS certs and programing or scripting experience. If you have this, drop me a DM.
Hi, I was looking to get into cybersecurity… any leads on a beginner level position would be appreciated. I am trying to switch fields. Would appreciate info/ leads.
Get Security + and Cisco CCNA at least pref Security +
Hard to hit the mark on salary given the incredible inflation we're currently seeing. But I would think $180k for AWS certs with additional cybersecurity certs would be about right.
180K would be fine as a base salary likely. But total comp will be tough as the years of experience required for someone of this caliber will cost you. What incentives do you have to attract and retain these individuals?
I think the salary is low for the certs and cloud experience. Cloud Security Engineers at my company are making at least $20K more than your salary. Architects make more
