I'm an Indian holding bachelor's degree in electrical and electronics engineering from India and master of international marketing degree from a United States. Overall, I have 7+ years of work experience in sales and marketing. IELTS 6.5 now I wish to migrate into Canada with the PR. Since lot of candidates are in the pool, sadly it would take me nearly 12 to 18 months to get my Canadian PR. Need advice. Have some credit card debt that I’ve been working to pay off. Have made progress but want to lower it quickly. We have dual income, with a house (~$300k in equity), 1 kid and 1 on the way. I’ve looked into debt consolidation via HELOC but also have ~$80k in vested equity in my company that I haven’t touched. Get equity refreshes every year. Would it be smarter to cash out $15k-$20k of that to pay debt vs. a HELOC at ~5% given that will still require mthly payments

So I’m only contributing to 401k enough to get employer match, and I’m saving an additional ~20% and putting 90% of that into my vanguard mutual funds. Reasoning is that I don’t want to lock away all that money maxing out 401k. Have 3 months expenses liquid in a savings account. Is this really dumb?
