Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

We’re helping with the debate of consulting vs. tech :)

I love the “blame Bain”. In true MBB fashion the company will then “blame associate / EM” if anything does happen. Part of your role as a junior is to be a sacrifice.

Such a big brain move. Get everyone fired and then apply knowing they have openings
Big brain comment
Every well-run large layoff involves consultants. Very difficult to run these with just internal staff, given the political sensitivity.
…they’re RSUs, not options. I personally barely have any bc they are issued quarterly. The bitterness some of y’all have is just sad.
Or girl!
I remember when Bain did the layoffs for my old company. We had hired back twenty percent of the people they suggested we fire before the severance was over and folks were getting double pay. Consulting often misses key factors like who actually knows what they’re doing at low levels. It also often makes the false assumption that someone not working a lot is a poor performer or unnecessary cause they have so little work, when in actuality they are the rock star and figured out how to do their job swiftly.
That was kind of my point B4. Not knowing the individuals and not being able to convince the leadership of the company of the importance in individual decisions is a massive mistake.
So, it was on Bain. It’s the old consultant trick to always blame the client for poor implementation though. Like McKinseys quote “half of all implementations fail because employees don’t get on board” then get them on board. That’s your job.

How? All our firms do this kinda work, trimming the fat is just the way of life for companies, at least consulting firms can help it be targeted using benchmarks and functional perspectives
MBB as soon as the economy turns…
This is the real underrated comment here.

are you telling me that the McK/BCG wouldn't chomp at this opportunity if given a chance?
(Leaving Deloitte and ACN off because they wouldn't be invited)

What odd firms to add on the tail there. First part of your comment is spot on though
There's no way McKinsey wasn't also involved. This affects a lot of stuff and it's not trivial. 11,000 high earners will scare the bay area as well as other locations. Add in the other bloodletting and it's smart to ask some questions before nuking it from orbit n

😳😳😳😳
I called this in a separate thread, consultants recommend layoffs so we can fill the gaps with contingent workers 😂
