Keeping vested equity in your own company is risky, (especially with a young family), if your company struggles, you may lose your job and investment.
I would definitely cash out $20k and pay off the debt. You will likely sleep easier, & with 2 young kids you need all the sleep you can get.
That’s a fair point as well

If you go with the HELOC you are just trading one debt for another, then you might not have the same motivation to pay it off as quickly as you do know.
If you have the company equity available I would suggest using that to pay off the debt. Then you can focus on your next goal. Take into account taxes you might have to pay on it as well though.

Equity stock options have different tax rules depending on how your company has them structured. Sometimes more favorable than regular capital gains rates.
Reach out to the institution who holds your stock options (Fidelity, Schwab, ect.) and they can direct you to the most efficient path.
I would use the equity and pay off that debt.
You should open a HELOC anyway. You don’t have to tap it but good to know that it’s available. You never know when you are going to need that HELOC money, especially if you have kids and a house. Lots of unexpected things could arise.
What is the balance and interest rate on the credit cards?
Balance is $1,864. I don't know what the interest rate is because I never pay it.
I would personally use a HELOC to pay off the credit card debt and then pay the HELOC off as quickly as possible, which should be easier at a lower interest rate. Don’t get into credit card debt ever again! Hope you learned your lesson.
Because he would be losing equity that is precisely generating a rate of return higher than the interest rate of the HELOC. I would prefer to get a HELOC at a lower rate. Basically, the rate of return he would lose from selling that equity would be greater than the interest rate he would have to pay with the HELOC.
You could also get a credit card that had 0% interest for balance transfers. I did that with 22k credit card debt and paid it off in two years. And I’m single income and only making 70k, with a mortgage and car note
