I think they're going to start to increase tire pressures for the next few races, which the teams won't necessarily like.
Wondering if one factor in their calculations (or miscalculations) is that this race is being run a month and a half later in the year than the race has been run in its last few instances (end of April versus mid June). Air temperature was roughly 10° to 15° higher than the previous races, and surely the track temperature was much higher too.
Bottas' was a puncture in 2018 (vs tire failure).
Pirelli saying preliminary analysis shows it was likely a puncture. Hamilton had a 6-7cm cut in his rear-left tire and they pointed out the rear-right is the most stressed tire at Baku.
Sounds like a CYA to me, would have believed it if there was just one incident
Probably none. Pirelli has had issues for years but keep getting new contracts.
Certainly in 2005
Tire failure doesn’t make sense to me as a likely cause in this case. The left rear isn’t the high-load or high-wear corner at Baku. That’s right rear and right front respectively.
With the cut they found on Lewis’ left rear it seams more likely that a curb on one of the left-hand turns caused damage and Stroll, Max, Hamilton each found that line at some point causing damage. Where other drivers were more lucky and missed that specific section. 🤷🏼♂️
