I’d say you’re missing a really key piece here and that’s People Relations. How good are you at connecting with people to gain their trust?

like

Sure. You mean, interpersonal skills, building rapport, growing and investing in one's network?

I'm comparing growth opportunities and evaluating them against my desired path. Comparing the options in front of me - either, specializing in mostly technical or mostly business acumen.

The answer is Role Specific, but Consulting or working for those types of organizations they seek people from highly accredited universities and seem attracted to “MBA” type profiles, which I would say is much more “business acumen” as you mentioned. Finance/Accounting and IT specifically I would lean more “technical”, they want the experience and not just a feeling for business.

helpful

Client-facing role.

That's the signaling I've received. Trying to gauge the extent.

Here is my idea for a startup! I collect all the data from career transitions and use Data Analytics to predict the most likely career transitions. I could start with consulting. What do you guys think about this? I would be able to predict based on your firm(mbb, big4), your experience, which role you are likely to move (Faang pm, strategy manager, move to mbb). I have all the data to do this, but wanted your thoughts. Would the output of this be relevant to you?

For the NJ folks who work in NYC - my potential new employer has offices in both NJ and NYC. The NJ office is a 1.5 hour drive vs. NYC ~40 min commute via train. Still very much hybrid work arrangement. Given the option, which office would you prefer to be based out of and why? Mostly asking from a tax perspective. While I believe it’ll even out when filing, I’d be paying state tax in both states throughout the year, right?
