What are you folks budgeting for union voiceover?

:15 & :30 Connected TV Local

:15 & :30 Radio Local

I'm in-house and was just sent an estimate that's pretty shocking: about double what I can find online, and about 3x the highest rates I've paid for nonunion talent.

It's standard union rules to pay multiple session fees for multiple spots, even if it's all over one record session. Also normal for video and radio to be costed separate. I just quoted close to $40k for 1 talent to record 2 different spots/scripts :30 & :15 versions. One of them the :15 isn't a strait lift, so it counts as 3 net new spots (3x session fees) Usage is a mix broadcast and olv + digital audio for 6months at 150 scale. You also pay principal fees if adapting footage from US (not reshooting with local talent).

ACTRA bones you with the multiple session fees across media and scripts even if recorded back to back in the same session.

My talent is making in 1 x 6-hour work day (oh yes and even though I'm paying 3 x the day rate for video + 3 x the day rate for radio, I am charged 2 hours OT because the incremental fees for radio session doesn't mean I can add those 2 additional hours to my workday. It counts as Overtime!) as much as I make in an entire quarter year of full time work.

And they wonder why agencies don't want to be signatory anymore...

That's really helpful. Thanks again. I get the sense that while the agency might not be signatory, the studio they insist on using probably is. We suspect the agency is trying to expand their creative and production portfolio, but don't have enough experience or knowledge to challenge what the studio is telling them.

About 4K for 15/30 on CTV and Radio, 1-year. Honestly, it’s crazy…been finding the non-union world sweeps the union in terms of quality these days…and non-union tends to make more money than union. That being said, situational. Speaking from Canada…not the US

Thanks. Is that $4K USD or CAD?

Also, the estimate from the studio is treating the CTV and Radio productions as separate (each has a separate line item for studio). This seems silly to me since we're not recutting anything... our plan is to take the :15 and :30 audio files for radio and just drop them into our video timeline for CTV.

I am interviewing at a Production Studio and it’s going well. The majority of my experience is agency side. They mentioned base salary with commission, as they want to see growth in the next 3-5 years. There has been no talk of salary yet. What does a base salary for an EP with commission usually look like in this role? What should I be asking for? I don’t want to give up my current salary, but I think this job would be such a great fit for me. Advice?
