Healthcare/Life Sciences in house. Hate my life a lot less than at a firm but it still has its moments. I’m trying to find meaningful hobbies outside of work to find more joy.
In-House Legal Counsel fortune 500. Privacy, contracts, labor and employment, transactional. Overall, love it. Way better than small private practice IMO. There are always trade offs with whatever you decide, and "love it" or "manageable" are very subjective based on your personality type.
Estate planning.
Only speaking for myself, I've seen too many software estate plans backfire. So yes, in the future I could see AI replacing some of the most basic planning, but I think HNW planning will still be a worthwhile area for attorneys.
As for how I got into it, I studied accounting in undergrad. Got my masters. But since my favorite class in grad school was gift and estate tax, and everyone I spoke to said that field is mostly attorneys, not accountants, I ended up going to law school. But once in law school I was always focused on getting to estate planning as my practice. I've never done anything else since graduating.

I'm not sure if you're talking just not hating the work itself or not hating the w/l balance etc. but I'm a mom of a 1 and 3 year old and have been trying to structure my career for the best possible w/l balance and for me l&e has been a good answer to that.
Business Immigration. Pay is meh but not bad and work/life balance is quite good.
