The son of the owner where I work has been coming to work with a gun showing it off to people. He got into an arguement, put his hands on another employee and threatened to put a 9 bullet in his head. I suspended him and opened an investigation. The owner is mad and feels my case is biased and suspended me. He admitted guild and its not about what happened but why! I need to protect the business & secure the victim to lessen the chance of him reporting this to EEOC or DHL. He's being a dad

Agree with lawyering up. This is a complex situation and you're not in a position to handle it on your own. Also remember that you are separate from the business: if the owner's poor decision making affects the business, that's not on you.

The job market is good for HR. I've had a few phone screens, lot's of hits on my resume and I've reached out to some professional colleagues. I'm ready to go. It's like pulling teeth to get them compliant. They fought me on COVID, the new NYS sick leave and they even hid calls from the State. They are all crooked and in bed together and it's full of bedbugs!!!

Lawyer asap! You will need to quit with grounds. A settlement package should be proposed. Always ask for the moon to get the house!

So to update. I met with the owner and we agreed to separate with a generous severance. I had interviewed and secured another position advancing my salary by $20,000 before the meeting. When God closes a door he opens a window.

Thank goodness you're getting away from these people, congrats on your new role.

Ofc this dude is going to be fine but hope this puts a buzz in owners ear to rethink things.

NFW- I just had a good laugh. Earlier today I was on a video conference call reviewing a Private Label Agreement template with a larger company who wishes to brand label products we develop and manufacture. We came to a very one-sided provision and my sales VP stated “for this one, how can we just say ‘hell no’ ...nicely?” The other person on the call said we can replace the wording with just NFW (no f@$* way) and I said “I will have to add that to the defined terms section so it’s clear”

Hi community, humbly seeking professional HR advice. I recently joined my company’s HR team. In an informal conversation, a senior HRBP, considered a peer, called 2 of our fellow HR colleagues “worthless.” I should have rebuked her then & there but was so caught off guard. This person is 20 years my senior. In the same conversation this person advocated for me on a separate matter & complimented my performance. I am not sure what course of action to take at this time. Distraught & unsure.

So, a recruiter gave me feedback that my lack SPHR or SHRM-SCP is causing my resume to be knock out by AI and human recruiters despite my position and work history in Multinationals and being in Technology. They suggested that we put SPHR ( Lapsed). I let it lapse in 2017. What is your opinion? Plus if I were to take another certification - should I take SPHR or SHRM-SCP?

New fish looking for career guidance.

I'm a corporate recruiter with 3 years of experience. Finishing my degree in HRM 5/2022. I'm thinking of getting my SHRM -CP shortly after graduation.

I'm not sure of where to go after that, but I doubt I will stick with recruiting or my current firm.

Has anyone here started off in recruiting and branched out to other HR functions? Do you like your new role? Do you wish you stuck with recruiting?

Have you ever taken a career slow down? I am feeling burnt out from COVID and the incremental responsibilities thrown my way over the last 5+ years. I feel like my health has deteriorated. I like my company, but I want to do less. I don’t need to be a HR Director, CHRO, etc. With a career slowdown, I am prepared for a lower compensation and would want decent benefits. Any lessons learned or success stories about career slowdowns?

Looking for advice! I was approved to work remotely but my salary will decrease 10%. I received two raises so the decrease brings me down to my previous salary. I was told that it’s due to the cost of labor in the area.

I’ve been with my company for 8+ yrs, I love my manager and the work I do (engagement, recognition, & wellness programs) but I feel like I’m limiting myself since I have the experience, an HRM degree, and SHRM-CP credentials.

Should I apply for roles outside the company?
