What do “business development” roles do in VC. There is no product, service to sell. Is about evangelizing portfolio company capabilities? Is there a quantifiable “quota” like metric? What is the day to day like?

Anyone who’s moved from consulting to VC, what are some of the ways you’ve made your application stand out? How much of securing the role was down to networking?

I networked with VCs and one of them was receptive but didn't have the budget currently for a full time hire.
