Could you walk to their desk? Or call their cell?
There are a lot of factors: day, time, who it is, and urgency.
WFH Day / Remote: give it 2 hours if not urgent. If (legit) urgent follow up in 30min.
In-Office Day: after 30min do a drive by at their desk. If they look busy wait another 30 and if not too busy (bc let’s be real we all are) then ask.
Time of Day: 9-12 same rules apply as above. 12-2 add 30min to 1hr due to lunch time. 3-5 only the urgency rule applies. If not urgent follow up in the morning.
Who it is: Boss / coworker - check their calendar to see when they are free to follow up. If urgent 30min slack follow up still applies. If they are a friendly coworker and you have a chill relationship - hound away.
Critical: 1 hour
Urgent: 2 hours
Important: 4 hours
It Can Wait: 24 hours
Low Importance: 1 week
This obviously depends on the urgency. But if not a fire drill then I would say follow up in 2 hours to accommodate for a block of meetings is reasonable.

Depends on urgency.
If I'm at the office, I'll go to their desk. If we're WFH that day, I'll ping every couple of hours with a "following up. If still no response, I'll put them in a chat with our PM asking the PM to follow up with them as well.

I don’t chase people, that is their accountability to use the tools mandated by the agency to do their job. If they don’t respond and deadlines are missed that is on them to own.
Not in the person is just flat out refusing to use the workflow management tools they are supposed to be using and just choosing not to. If someone is following process and something slips than of course I’m going to check in and ensure things aren’t missed. I refuse to chase people when they aren’t doing what they ste supposed to and want custom management because they think they are above it.
