Remember modest is hottest!
Don’t show ankles , that’s the quickest way to catch a one way ticket to hell

A crisp $100 bill
One thing I got for mine (tbh the only gift I remember other than checks) was this card saying money had been donated in my honor to this charity that provided farm animals to communities and how it gave 10 chickens which would provide x amount of eggs, 1 cows which could provide milk and cheese for x amount of people, etc. They wrote a nice card saying like Jesus said to feed the poor and hungry so I’m donating this in your honor or something. As a 7 year old I thought that was cool because I could understand the charity and animals and how they helped people.
Give him cash. Depends on how close you are to him but $50-$100 is probably good.
Am catholic. Not sure on gift but just be sure your shoulders are covered in the church. It’s an often overlooked thing by non Catholics and is a sign of respect.

A shawl works if you have a sleeveless dress and it's going to be hot out. My normal summer mass outfit was a sleeveless button down, knee length skirt, leather flats, and a light shawl.

Business or business casual is fine if you are participating. I treat it like another birthday so whatever the parents needs I'll get.
Can’t go wrong with a card and some money... if you want a more ‘religious’ gift, I’m guessing etsy probably sells a bunch of religious/bible verse art, cross hangings, and custom picture frames to commemorate first communion. Or you could get a little book of prayers or kid’s bible... For outfit- pretty much whatever you’d wear to work for business casual is fine- no jeans or sneakers
I received some nominal savings bonds (<$100) at mine which may be a good gift
PS5, he'll have a head start over all the other kids
Thanks everyone!
I grew up catholic and there was never an issue with shoulders or ankles. Wear something nice but don’t worry about modesty beyond what you’d wear to the office.
