What does everyone think about working overtime regularly?
Personally I think as a one off its okay unpaid. However, if its out of your regular job requirements, I don't think it should be looked down on for not wanting to do regular unpaid work. What does everyone else think??

It shouldn't be looked down on. Depending on the company and its culture, it might be. I don't have to put in a crazy amount, but there are times where it's necessary to get everything done and it'd be frowned upon if I closed up shop right at 5 PM.

100%, but as a one off I totally do not mind doing it at all. It happens! But I wouldn't want it to be expected of me 24/7 just because I did it one time you know?

It’s apart of life. There are days you have to commit yourself to doing extra time and even weekends unfortunately. Don’t prioritize your job over what’s really important but also be grateful you have the opportunity to work especially in this economy.

See not to be rude at all, but I see it from the complete opposite way round. Work should not be your whole life, and I'd rather take a part time job that pays less so I can have a life if I am expected to constantly work overtime. Also I would never work weekends just in general unless I am being paid overtime rate. Unless its a one off, if its outside my regular hours and I am not getting paid for it I am not doing it. I am from England however, not sure if you are US based? I know we have a bit of a different outlook on work/life balance

One-off is expected everywhere at some point. When it’s a constant, that’s when I have to push back. It’s either come to be expected, or something is wrong that’s not being fixed.

Agreed! The occasional extra push is one thing, but when unpaid overtime becomes the expectation, it stops feeling reasonable. I don't think it should be frowned upon to want clear boundaries around regular work hours.

It’s happens - that’s salary for you.

I generally don’t think finance are 9-5 jobs if you want to advance

I’m a first year associate (almost second year). I work at a national firm and I’m not a litigator. When I started with the firm, I was told I could work out of any office. I don’t know how to make this request.
