Can you name a firm (preferably NY office) that lets its associates work from a different country with no issues? The mid-size firm I’m currently at has been very flexible during covid but I’m looking to change firm (biglaw). Since my family is abroad I find it extremely valuable to be able to do this (I did this even before covid for a couple of weeks, twice a year). I’ve heard firms like Latham and Paul Weiss don’t allow it for tax reasons.

I'm thinking of leaving firm life and applying to the NY SG's office. Anyone heard anything about it (work environment, prestige, etc.)?

Any other first years out there worry that this virtual environment just won’t be able to teach them? Moving from government to BigLaw as a 6th year. Since I'm coming in as a mid-level, I feel like this transition is different than a junior whom partners expect to know little. Any advice?

I recently lateraled into Big Law. Most of my colleagues are homegrown. My shift did involve a big change in practice area, and there's work that I haven't done before that I now have to do.

But, sometimes I feel stupid here, even for work which I have done previously. It's like I'm unable to understand instructions the first time around. And I have seen my colleagues getting annoyed by that. It's like I've become dumb. In my defence, I could say they're giving half assed instructions.

Anyone else at a firm with a fiscal year starting November 1 in limbo with hours? I've hit my bonus hours but there's no way to hit the next bonus level in just a month so I'm just gonna give the firm like 180 free hours...

Corporate or litigation, which is easier to reach billable hour requirement? In other words, which is easier to bill a lot annually? Comparably speaking.

Current large firm has no office there but mentioned they can likely let me be there in a remote basis. BCG and a few other law blog sites have advised against accepting current firm counter-offers, e.g., likely to leave, not loyal, off partner track, etc., but would love to hear everyone’s thoughts.
