If you want to be a SM, absolutely.
Sure! I followed an unusual path. I am a CPA and I was moving upward in management at a large company, and decided to career switch for a variety of reasons (mostly work-life balance). Since I didn’t have any IT experience, I took a bunch of classes online to level up. Then I transferred from an Accounting/Finance team to the Financial Systems team at the same company I already worked for. This was helpful since I already knew the financial applications I’d be supporting. I got my CSM then. Then I went on to be SM at another company, where I didn’t know any of their tech. But honestly it didn’t matter - I didn’t need to be a technical expert in order to lead my 2 teams. Now I’m on contract with another company and working towards my advanced CSM.
