What is an offer of proof? How does that work procedurally?

I know this bowl isn’t the most active, but my grandmother is in the hospital for Covid (severely high risk), grandfather has it, as does my mom and 8 year old brother. My mom is also experiencing PTSD or some form of mental issue where she has certain triggering events. Everyone is concerned about her and my grandmother. Please keep my family in your prayers

Just had my discovery flight and I’ve been wanting to go for my PPL for a while, just not sure I can justify the 15k or so investment in my current financial situation. Would it be really bad to spread my lesson over a period of a few years?

There is an opportunity that I’m currently interviewing for that is very interesting to me. I’m interviewing two other places but I’m not responding to LinkedIn emails for other positions. First years: How many hours are you actually working versus chargeable? I always cut some off because I spend a lot of time making notes, doing extra research, and really trying to understand concepts

I have been talking to a recruiter for a little over a month about a position. I let her know out the gate that I really wasn’t looking to change jobs, but she just kept wanting to continuing the conversation. Does anyone else constantly put off putting their time in as they go and then hate their life at the end of the month? Then once you get caught up, you don’t want to enter more time, and so you fall behind again. It’s a vicious cycle.

Why do people distinguish between DOCUMENTS and COMMUNICATIONS in requests for documents. Aren’t communications a subset of documents? Is this a copy-paste holdover from interrogatories, or is there a valid reason to distinguish?

I am a 2nd year associate at a plaintiff’s firm specializing in toxic tort cases (individual). I’ve had the opportunity to be third chair on a trial, and will likely be second chair in an upcoming trial. However, given the track record of the firm and the amount of money at stake in each case, I am afraid I won’t get any first chair experience, if any, for at least another 5-7 years. I am considering staying at the firm but trying to get trial experience through side Pro Bono work. Thoughts?

FL peoples: I signed a lease for a new place to start May 1 as my current landlord sold the unit I'm in. Turns out, the buyer wants to keep renting the unit and asked if I want to stay. Of course I want to stay. My new lease hasn't started so I'm pretty sure I can easily back out. For the new lease, I'm still pending full approval from a condo association as I have to do an in person interview. I have paid first months rent in advance. Is there anyway to get that money back?

Looking for some advice. Second year associate at firm of 25ish attorneys in the Midwest. Looking to make a move and have an attractive offer from a small firm of 6 attorneys. Better pay and work life balance, but I’m concerned for how a firm that small may impact my career options moving forwards and if other firms or in house options down the line maybe frown on such small firms.

Is there such place as non toxic ID firm? Or does any of ID attys like what they do? I moved from general practice to an ID firm six months ago. Biggest mistake of my life. I have a question for my fellow PI paralegals in Texas. TPCIGA requires that we submit all medical bills through the clients insurance before proceeding further. The client in question has Aetna. I sent the bills with a cover letter to Aetna via certified mail. I am having so much trouble getting a status on said claim. Does anyone here have experience with that and can assist me? Any help or guidance is appreciated.

Currently at a super conservative defense firm. I do really well but keep getting the criticism that I tend to just do things on my own initiative. I’m just predisposed to being decisive and rather autonomous. Besides being a solo atty, where would this skillset be better suited? Plaintiffs work?

Why do people “certify the question” during depos - this one guy says it after every instruction not to answer. From his tone it’s not to “mark” the section of the transcript for him later. Isn’t this an old school thing - like pre computers?

How do you get caught up (or even ahead) when you’re always behind? Assume that all things that can be offloaded have been offloaded. I cannot take one more all nighter trying to get a motion drafted two days before the deadline because I couldn’t get to it earlier.
