One week for every year ‘served’ is the norm I’ve found. I’ve been laid off twice due to a client loss.
My reco for severance is to ask if you can keep your laptop. Lie to them and tell them you don’t have one, and it would help you immensely in your search. Then take the laptop and sell it. They usually don’t say yes to asking for more money, but I’ve gotten an extra MacBook out of it each time that I’ve sold.
Rising Star
16 weeks and kept my insurance for the duration (not US based). It was due to a merger and the new CCO wanted to bring in their own teams.
Worked somewhere for almost 3 years. They gave me 8 weeks severance (4 pays) and they gave me health benefits for that period too. That was the sweetest deal I’ve had.
Most times I’ve been laid off, I got health benefits for the period of the severance package. Reasons ranged from lack of work or clients leaving or a combination of things.
I’ve also had luck asking for more money because I told them that if I did my timesheets correctly they’d be double time. Boom, extra week of severance. Good luck!
Change in staffing/scope at account-level.
* One week serverance for each year with company.
* Last date of employment moved forward to first day of the following month, so I would have health insurance for that month. Then the first month of COBRA on the company as well.
