Think it changes based on practice group. Most recently as a first year was 720... now as a 2nd year its somewhere between 800-900. Insane - NY of course.

5th year PNW $415. Am100.

helpful

V10 10th year $1050

Note our rates (and most firm rates) also vary with practice group and sometimes by geography.

like

This will vary widely based on market/relative firm band/ranking.

V10 NY Associates 4th years and up are $1000+/hour these days

But you might see 4th years in Chicago at V100 firms with rates near 400-600/hour

2nd year DC $640/hr

2nd year West Coast 650

My friend is at a V30 and his rate is apparently $950 as a second year. At my V100, second year is $650. Same across all offices.

V20, 3rd year, $910

V20 Chicago 5th year $1050

DC V25 8th year $1050

2nd year DC at $850/hour

Texas, 2nd year, $740/hr

I applied for a role a few days ago and found the relevant hiring manager today via LinkedIn. Should I send a follow up mail/introduce myself to this person. Would it leave a good impression or come across as desperate?

How bad is it for a junior to push back against a completely psychotic mid level? I don’t know how this mid level hasn’t been fired because they are even rude and bossy to partners and are a nightmare for juniors. I’ve decided enough is enough and am now pushing back against their arbitrary deadlines and other insane and unnecessary asks. I rarely work with this person and have good reviews. I’ve been having a bit of trouble working with one partner at a new firm. There are definitely things I can/need to work on for improvement, but I’ve been practicing for four years and have had no trouble with other partners/peers before. This partner sent an email to me with bills for one client of his/hers I worked on and now looped in a practice management person to have a ‘management call’ (prob to talk about billing less..) Should I be looking for other opportunities?

Any tips for how to better implement feedback on drafts? My work is so heavily redlined that I struggle to consistently follow through with every comment/feedback. Thankfully the partner I work with is extremely patient and a very good teacher, I would just like to be better at learning from his very thorough feedback.

Considering a jump from Chicago to New York. I truly love living in Chicago and how far this salary gets me but I definitely want to try to make it in New York.

The only problem is my significant other has a lot of negative opinions about New York. I ultimately want to return to DC but I feel like a few good years in New York would be really good for me. In terms of a place to live, where in Manhattan can I find a place that's similar to River North in Chicago?

How can I sell my 2 years of clerkship as valuable experience for corporate work? I would like to get credit for at least one year (at least in salary, if I can’t in seniority). I know for litigation they are more clearly valued and linked to that type of work, but I have reconsidered my interests and now am thinking of going into corp. However, I don’t want to feel like I wasted 2 years clerking (which I don’t feel like that, but I have to convince an employer of that too). Any help or insight?
