What kind of skills (tech or otherwise) should someone in the finance (Investment strategy) industry upskill in? I recently started a new role as in investment strategy analyst and quite a few ppl in my team are planning or have started learning python and data science stuff. Coming from a non tech background, which is the simplest to start with and should one take up paid courses or start with YouTube tutorials.

I just finished a big jury trial with a senior partner (SP). There were co-parties w/separate counsel. SP mentally checked out, to the point that co-counsel was asking what SP was doing/if SP was okay. I ended up handling most everything. SP did a few parts but went rogue and did things that were offensive/risky/bad for client. It became clear that SP is not performing like SP used to and may be a liability. Do I tell someone at my firm? Don’t want to offend SP or cause drama, but I’m concerned.

I have an offer from an Asset Manager in London and it is slightly below my expectations. I want to approach them for a joining bonus but was not sure if it is a thing in asset management.

Just curious to how my firms (wealth management/bank/trust) comp compares with others out there. I received a promotion earlier this year from an Investment Advisor, AVP to Senior Investment Advisor, VP and moved from $110K to $140K ($130 salary + $10K discretionary bonus) all in. By meeting expectations in 2 pay cycles, the base bumps up to $175K + bonus. Grown in this role over about 10 years with the same firm, MBA + CFA; top 10 city and living comfortably as dual income household.

I'm assuming based on the average salary reported across these portals for principal that those figures apply to the RE group as well. Curious what’s a fair salary in MA? Was just told that there is likely not going to be a chance for a raise during my upcoming performance review due to my salary already being “above average for the industry” based on my employer’s questionable research. I am asked during this RE analyst interview to build a real estate model from scratch. My background is commercial banking and I am used to analyzing real estate deals from the lender side not the developer. The interviewer is generous I must say he’s giving me a few days to complete. However this model is for a ground up multifamily development. I have no prior experience building one. I can find models online but all very complexe to reproduce. How would you handle?
