To be honest though - it shouldn’t matter how high the percentage is. Millions of people are queer or identify somewhere on the LGBT spectrum, our experiences are valid and important.
A lot of cultural trends originate in marginalized communities, as coding or self-expression. Sadly, we mostly don’t drill down into smaller, more specific target groups, so most what we can do in my experience has been to find the other creatives that care (and there are usually a few) and work it in covertly.

Whether or not your life experiences overtly show up in the work you contribute to, the way you think and the way your creativity expresses itself will naturally translate on a subtler level. And even that little bit makes a lot of difference when you add it all up at the end of the day. I think as this next generation who has a broader idea of what being queer means and is more open about it gains power, your experiences will be valued more and more.
Officially, its 4%. But keep in mind that is a self-reported number. If we include all the closet cases and DL bruthas its more like 10-15%.
It depends on the country you’re looking into, and that also is obviously connected to local culture around queerness, but you can find details here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_sexual_orientation - it’s often higher than 4%, don’t know where that number is coming from.
But that number is massively different if you look at Millennials and younger generations, first studies have those at 20%. https://www.glaad.org/blog/new-glaad-study-reveals-twenty-percent-millennials-identify-lgbtq
