I think someone needs to put a conference together dealing within, “how do students enter middle school or high school without knowing basic math concepts”!
Have you done the Bootstrap math/CS integration workshop? It is pretty awesome! https://sites.google.com/view/seasons-of-cs/upcoming-workshops/summer-of-cs-2023?authuser=0&utm_source=STEAM+-+main+list&utm_campaign=1fd386c95d-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2021_05_14_08_56_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_d5f536aa8b-1fd386c95d-328804333
We are just supposed to put our students in groups and let them figure it out. What could go wrong? I class with 25% kids trying to learn and 75% trying to jack up your class. I guess if you put a group of kids together that can't add or subtract, they can magically learn advanced math topics. I guess like that old adage about if you have chimps with typerwriters, they will eventually randomly produce Shakespeare. Admin are duped especially when the kids have whiteboards and are in groups talking. They are talking, but not about math, and no work gets done. Nothing is learned based on assessments. But the kids are collaborating!!!!!!! A win! :/
