I’ve hired more than 100 people in my career and I have NEVER cared about someone’s GPA in 20 years of building and leading teams. Experience trumps GPA every day of the week. Is the person volunteering, side hustling, stretching themself professionally? These are the things that matter most when you’re young and don’t have a ton of exp.
I had a 2.39 and am on the verge of being the youngest director I know. It’s all about finesse. Plus I had a rough time in college and didn’t really want to be there until the end.
3.4
3.6 at a state school full time and had two internships at the same time. Pulled it off because one was remote and the other was in person, did about 50 hours a week for two years
3.4 but networkinng and the right skillset helps
Just keep apply for jobs. Some companies care some don’t. After your first job, it won’t matter
I’ve never asked nor cared about GPA when hiring someone. It’s about their experiences , attitude, drive, and references during interviews. Some people don’t excel in school for any number of reasons, but working coops or having successful internships shows you’ve experienced more than the classroom
Good luck
3.18 from a small university. Senior Manager after 7 years at S&
I had a strong CV in undergrad (interned at startups and in big 4, had impactful volunteering experiences etc). Overall, I think I came off as very smart and likeable, which helped in garnering favors. However, what truly helped was the immense amount of case study prep I did! Your GPA is just one data point and even after reviewing CVs at S&, I can tell you I care less these days about them
That’s an average enough gpa, it’s not like thats actually bad or anything. May not land every job they want but I’d say their gpa isn’t going to automatically rule them out of most jobs they want. They should be able to get interviews with that gpa and prove themselves in the interview
Your friend shouldn’t worry but should also be realistic - unless they have amazing connections and went to a top flight school, things like MBB and IB are likely out of reach for now. They should focus on getting a good job in the field they’re interested in and performing well there - they can always apply to a shinier company down the road.

GPA? Have you got your first job yet? Don’t tell me that you are an MBA, they need to be locked away for 9 months after graduating.
3.3 when I graduated in 2021 with an economics major. Got an internship at PwC while I had a 3.25 (I believe) which lead to full time. GPA isn’t a major factor, from my experience at least. Networking, interviewing skills, and extracurriculars matter more. If you are applying for jobs in the same city/region as your university they also will understand the rigor of the school very well. My alma mater is notoriously famous for grade deflation/no inflation, so that’s all taken into account
2.01 they didn’t ask for my gpa but i had health issues/several internships under my belt
3.5 Biology - had to network a lot for my jobs though, most places wouldn't interview me if I didn't network
2.7 for me graduated in 2019 and its either they never ask about my gpa or i dont share. I figured companys that asks for gpa are bad companys anyway.
3.94; marketing major, international relations minor. I just tried to go deep with a network at my firm, did my due diligence for the interview process, and followed up. Was also lucky with timing though; they overhired for my incoming cohort, and I’ve dodged layoffs.
3.37 gpa but networked hard to get a job at a small consulting firm then moved up to tier 2 consulting firm
3.195 (lol) from a target school, class of 20; starting 85k
3.36 out of 4.3. I had 2 good internships under my belt. Ngl my low GPA was a bit of a barrier. GPA matters but it’s only 1 data point in your story. We look at it because it’s the only quantifiable metric we can compare students for recruiting but really only matters for resume screening. Once you’re a couple years out of school it doesn’t matter. I didn’t need to submit a transcript for my current role at EYP
