What was your first salary negotiation? Mine was when I got promoted in the job I started off from out of school. I tried to negotiate but my manager said I don’t have enough experience to negotiate. I didn’t argue but I was at the very bottom of the payband 😭 a year later I left and it took them months to fill my role

My second job since I didn't know when I got my first offer that you're expected to negotiate. I asked for $10k more and accepted $3k. Really crushed it 😂💀

Hey at least you got something! What was the reason they couldn’t give you the 10k?

The very first negotiation was probably my second job. Did not go well at all, and they told me no on everything I tried to bring up. Still accepted the job, and still happy I tried. A lot easier after that first one.

Definitely negotiate a lot better now. Relizing what I need vs. want out of the negotiation and kind of reading the room in terms of what they are willing to offer. Also doesn’t hurt to have more experience and skills to leverage either.

My first true negotiation was during a promotion at my first big boy job. I was initially an assistant project manager and I was promoted to project manager.

I didn’t even try to negotiate my salary for the APM position because I was just happy to get my foot in the door.

Is it okay to disappear from friends & family to work on career change goals (several months)? I want to focus and not get distracted by friends & family needs to see me or attend certain things as it takes up a lot of time. If I focus for a short time, I can quickly achieve my goals to switch. I can hangout with them after all of that. What do you think?? Any feedback will be appreciated.

I’ve been in tech sales for 20+ years. Have an opportunity to take a position at a tech company in Sales Enablement. Anyone have some insight into this type of role? Is it interesting, challenging, collaborative?
Thinking about coaching others in sales could be fun for me at this stage.
Would love some input as this is a new field unfamiliar with.

Have an interview coming up (experienced hire, senior associate, in the automotive & A&D sector)

Anyone have any experiences about project types, how S& stand apart, etc? Also

I'm coming from Deloitte (A&D engineer previously), where i had enjoyed/been most productive in strategy assessment projects... Part of why I'm going for S& before PwC. But would love to hear about the kinds of projects to expect, differences vs what I've done, and any other interview prep suggestions.

Thank you!

So I have a felony. I interviewed with a recruiter today who was super cheerful and nice. Once I disclosed my felony, which she already knew about since a friend referred me to her, she immediately stopped the interview and said she couldn’t in good faith move forward on my application given the nature of my offense. I explained that I had done my time, paid my fines and restitution and had the experience to become a great asset to the organization. -she suggested I look into bartending.

So glad I found this bowl. How do you go about negotiating your salary? I applied for a new role and was offered the job. But the pay we haven’t discussed yet. I never did this and heck I don’t know where to start.

I received a job offer from company A and am currently negotiating salary. I have an interview with company B next week and know that they offer a higher base pay. There’s no guarantee that I will be offered a job at company B but my gut is telling me that company B would be a better fit for me. Should I accept the offer from company A, continue interview process with company B and then rescind my offer with company A if company B offers me a job? Will I be burning bridges?

I’m currently in the process of being converted from contractor to permanent. In my initial conversations I was under the impression that I was in a different pay grade and asked for a salary 25k higher than the max allotted for my position. I feel like it gave the impression that I don’t know what I’m doing. Any suggestion how I can recover from this?

I’ve been verbally offered a position at a new company, but the recruiter insists on getting a verbal acceptance before sending the offer in writing. This person insists on negotiating salary before sending the paperwork. Generic benefits, RSUs, bonus info have been provided; it’s all unofficial.

This is absurd. Am I missing some “new way” of doing things? Your take?

I’m interviewing with a startup and the range has a 40k difference from the lowest to highest point. It’s also pre-seed and comes with equity, and health, 401k benefits. It’s a director of sales role so I would eventually be recruiting and managing a team along with building the processes and strategy. What would you consider a fair compensation package? If they offer me something on the lower end of the range, is it still appropriate to counter with an offer that is over their stated range?
