As a former compensation consultant, specialized, high impact roles without direct reports can make as much as 800k in total cash comp (base+bonus) and can easily go above 1 mil in total comp (base+bonus+equity).
These roles don’t work as much as MDs or partners in consulting would on a consistent basis, but they could work a lot when special situations come up. Some title examples for your reference: SVP Intellectual Property, Head of External Affairs, Head of [specialized field] Research at pharmaceutical companies…
As you can see, you’re not necessarily “chilling” since your work is highly visible and have a very high impact t on the organization. In short, there’s no room for screwing ups (your decision making needs to be on point) but going back to timing requirements, you’re not clocking 60 hrs a week and working on weekends on a consistent basis. Hope this helps.
I know plenty of jobs that pay $400k-$2.5mm but they all require tailored career experience and various levels of intellectual prowess ($2.5mm would be hedge fund quant, for example)

What you posted is exactly what I’ve been asking in private 1:1s with some but feel like it’s something not to say out loud 😂, so thanks for just saying it.
