A referral will help you stand out. Like you said everyone's got polished resumes now, having an extra layer of trust from someone internally could make you more visible to the hiring team. So network if you can and make sure your resume tells your story.
I find that a lot of people are using ChatGPT for their resumes, but nobody is submitting cover letters anymore. They feel like it's a waste of time, but I've noticed that it helps me stand out. I've had hiring managers and recruiters say they specifically reached out to me because I included a cover letter when most don't.
Attributing things to ChatGPT makes no sense. The purpose of a cover letter is to show some personality, so anyone farming that out to a glorified web scraper is just making themselves look generic. That doesn't seem like such a strategic move. And no one should need an AI tool to write a resume. You're simply describing a career you've lived, it's not that difficult.
I kind of disagree with that! I think the chatbots are actually hurting a lot of people's chances because they are being too generic in how they use them. Now, the issue comes in more so with people overapplying in cases where they probably shouldn’t have because now they can so easily submit a resume or cover letter.
I think you need to know people in the organization. I’m so hesitant because I also want to make sure I work with people I know and can trust. I have trust issues lol
