I see so many posts about going in-house and wonder if it’s a possibility for me at some point or if my chosen career path has pretty much closed the door on that, since I mostly see people discussing this in the big law bowl. I do (mostly plaintiff-side) employment lit at a small firm. Are there any in-house roles where the skills I’ve acquired would be useful? Or does anyone have tips about how to build useful skills for in-house in my current role?

Are people continuing to work if they have the symptoms of COVID-19 but not yet bad enough to be hospitalized? Curious how accommodating firms are being on that front.

I have a new client who, I think, got bad legal advice from someone else she consulted with. From the information I have, there is no way she gets to the numbers I do. I work in a pretty small legal community. How do I address this delicately? My client is hung up on “but that’s not that X said” even though I’ve explained it multiple times and way. Frankly I’m tired of speaking to them and answering the same boring questions, especially if I know they have a low GPA and no chance of summering at my firm, but I do feel bad saying no/ignoring them

I’m at a mid size transactional firm. I’m a total night owl and my partners have OK’d me starting the workday at around 11am because I regularly work until midnight or later. I get so much more done after dark! I still get some side eye from other associates, but 🤷🏽‍♀️

I see biglaw raising the salaries. I’m in midsize regional firm payed $163K class of 2014. We’re currently trying to convince the management to increase pay. It would be helpful to know how much are my peers getting at midsize, we know biglaw. Billing requirement is 1900. Good work life balance and kind people but still $$$ hella low.

Question on how to proceed. I have an action that is required to be heard within 30 days. It was filed 3 months ago and hasn't even been assigned a judge. I've emailed the clerk a few times requesting a docket number so I can at least serve D's. Yet absolutely nothing. Is this common in New Jersey? I think I'm going to submit a formal letter to the court but what else can I do?

honest question: why does everyone hate Lewis Brisbois?

I’m working at a small firm that is more like a one-stop shop. We’ve had instances where a client of ours have asked for a deliverable that is outside of our expertise and that we need specialists for. However, the relationship partner (is that what they’re called) for some reason wants everything to go through them rather than having the specialists directly engage with the client. Is there some legal/ethical reason for this? Or is this just an act to protect their turf?

I accepted a job offer in April to start a few months from now, post clerkship. All conflicts/background check went smoothly etc. Since accepting my offer, the firm has increased their 1st year pay across the board to be higher than my offer was (which was, at the time, what 2nd yeas got). Giving notice tomorrow. I plan on staying til end of month. A big reason I’m leaving is because my group is overextended and understaffed, which makes it seem like an even worse time to leave. I do not anticipate this going well.
