I see so many posts about going in-house and wonder if it’s a possibility for me at some point or if my chosen career path has pretty much closed the door on that, since I mostly see people discussing this in the big law bowl. I do (mostly plaintiff-side) employment lit at a small firm. Are there any in-house roles where the skills I’ve acquired would be useful? Or does anyone have tips about how to build useful skills for in-house in my current role?

I know most of the questions here will be on sexism or inclusion of POC but can we talk about ageism? Once we reach a certain age should we just leave the agency business? Is that fair?

I have around 1 year of experience in Java and total 5.5 years in total.

I got a lead role in a company with good package.
The role is of java fullstack, microservices.
I studied hard on spring boot and microservices but my hands on experience is less.

For those who were diagnosed as an adult can you provide some insight into how you were able to obtain a diagnosis. I went to my primary care dr who referred me to another dr who specialized in mental health. He asked me about 5 questions before telling me I should see a neuropsychologist for an official assessment. The referral he gave me is super pricey and apparently isn’t covered by insurance. Is that normal?

I am on partnership track. However a few partners I work with started to act kind of cold lately. It is hard to put it on words. But this is getting harder as it hurts my feelings. I’ve been running into weird happenings at my new firm learn of everything “I misunderstood” about my package. I don’t actually qualify for quarterly bonuses at a pro-rated billing rate; no 401ks till year 2; and the biggest—we don’t qualify for a raise unless we are here during the entire fiscal year. We have a 2100 billable req which I’m barely hitting. We also get paid below 6 figures. I learned that the new associates came is at least $10k over us. I graduated 2020–but 1st firm job. Advice?

I have cleared conflicts but the background check won’t clear for another week. I have passed background checks at three firms, a background check by USCIS to obtain my citizenship, and haven’t committed any crimes or even a moving violation since then. Am I safe to give notice before background clears?

I’m at a mid size transactional firm. I’m a total night owl and my partners have OK’d me starting the workday at around 11am because I regularly work until midnight or later. I get so much more done after dark! I still get some side eye from other associates, but 🤷🏽‍♀️

Young lawyer here. I fell for an impersonation scam. Scammer pretended to be a very senior partner at my firm. I am mortified and embarrassed, as it’s not something I would normally fall for. I was in a rush and when I saw the partners name on the email my knee-jerk reaction was “if he says jump you ask how high”. I don’t care about the money I lost, I care far more about the opinions of others at my firm who now know about this (managing partner etc.). Is my credibility shot?

I see biglaw raising the salaries. I’m in midsize regional firm payed $163K class of 2014. We’re currently trying to convince the management to increase pay. It would be helpful to know how much are my peers getting at midsize, we know biglaw. Billing requirement is 1900. Good work life balance and kind people but still $$$ hella low.
