Generally there are no complimentary upgrades for international (excluding Canada/Mexico). You have to buy up with cash, points, miles etc.
I mean it’s cheaper bc you already bought the seat, but it doesn’t change the price at all
Depends what you mean by “international.” American for example only offers complementary upgrades to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central America.
No US airline even offers a “first class” anywhere long haul international anymore, other than American that is getting rid of it. No US airline offers complementary upgrades on long haul international flights to business without the use of a systemwide upgrade.
If there are open seats, then the highest status gets first dibs, and down the list they go
Flying first class Lufthansa to Europe on Tuesday for 100k points.
Economy was 40k, business was 70k.
Internationally zero on a US airline
You cannot get a complimentary upgrade to delta1 on delta for intercontinental flights even if diamond (not sure about delta 360).
United you can get upgraded on international flights space available basis. Got upgraded from EWR - DEL last week. Amazing upgrade.
