What's the most strat people you have on a project? I was just on a kickoff with five strategists.

How many does it take to write a 4 page brief of "insights" you've seen a million times before?

We recently had four on a pitch where all they did was parrot back the input brief and throw in a couple of stats. It’s a easy life

like

Was like that at Razorfish and Big Spaceship. Brace yourself for copy “feedback” on your work.

Was doing a global pitch and there were nine of them, all director level or higher

Crazy because as a strategist I’ve never worked with more than 1 other strategist, unless others had specialties like comms or social. Maybe more for something huge like a pitch, but very rare

like

Same, most of the time 1 strat

Five? Sheesh. We max out at two. The strategist and the head of strategy.

Same. Maybe three if it’s a massive project / pitch or if they bring different things to the table

I bet the brief wasn't the least bit original either...

Usually one strategist on a project, two max (senior and oversight from VP, for example).

if it’s a huge global company or there’re other specialties involved, yeah, maybe more - but you still have one leading.

Anything more than 2 is overkill

I am surprised and concerned about the fact that a lot of my colleagues do not have good excel skills. I literally had to show someone higher rank than me probably 30ish, how to do a “find” in excel for the workbook. This isn’t limited to people who have been out of school for awhile. This also includes new hires and staff, and seniors. Partners forget about it. They probably aren’t involved at all in building out the work paperwork but I feel staff, seniors and managers should be good users

Can someone explain how billable hours work? At a new agency and although I had to fill timesheets at my previous agencies, they were mainly used to ensure we weren’t over servicing a client/for setting the appropriate retainer for contract renewals. I asked ppl at my agency but haven’t gotten a proper explanation. I get the impression that billing to the agency admin code isn’t recommended, and my manager said he bills everything to client codes, but that doesn’t make sense to me .
