What’s the risk (if any) to move from a firm’s HQ in high cost cities (NY, DC, Cali) to a satellite office that’s cheaper. My primary motivation is to save money, but I wouldn’t do it if it hurts career. Thoughts? I m in lit if it matters to the topic

At some firm, harder to make partner. Less plugged in to firm dynamics and politics. Less face time with people you may want to work with.

If those don’t matter/can be mitigated, I’d see little downside.

like

The salary and bonus structures will likely be different in the satellite office. There is risk that you continue doing the same work but for far less money.

This shouldn’t be true at good firms

They lower your salary to market.

Our satellite office associates definitely get staffed less and it’s harder to make partner

Today I learned a new thing. One candidate was referred by a colleague of mine in the system. He got selected and offer letter rolled out.

When he checked the system he realized the referral was not taken and the background system captured it as direct hire.

So my friend is not going to get any referral incentive.

Wondering if anyone else faced the same issue?

Hi everyone, a question to the tech industry at large.

Why are people so hesitant to hire disabled candidates?

I am a visually impaired practitioner in South Africa, with 7 years of experience, and as soon as recruiters or business owners hear/read that I'm disabled, the conversation gets awkward and I never hear from them again.

How can I get experience with user testing and interviews if clients don’t value it?
I’m a designer at an agency looking to land a product design position. I’ve got 8 years experience, started as a brand designer and now focus solely on web and product design. I work with agile dev teams and have worked on real products that have shipped (mostly b2b). Many of the positions I’m interested in ask for experience with user testing and interviews, which I have not had the opportunity to do.
